Toys + ´Tings Toy Drive – Isla Mujeres Mexico

Toys + ´Tings is a non-profit initiative that aims to collect toys and school supplies to benefit the boys and girls of Isla Mujeres.

This toy drive is a little different from most. It is founded by David Araya, a resident and ´cantinero´ who sought a simple way to interact and share a cocktail while making a simple transaction and good deed. To participate? Simply show up at a host location on their participating date with a Christmas present and exchange it for a delicious cocktail (or mocktail)!

Each Friday from 6pm – 9pm during the month of November and December, there will be multiple participating locations throughout the island. Amongst these repeating restaurants like Chile & Maiz by Fermin Perez, Javis´s Cantina by Marla Bainbridge and Javier Martinez, and El Mucho Muy Bueno by Julio Povedano and Karen Pinelo.

El Mucho Muy Bueno will be available for a breakfast exchange from November 28th through December 3rd!

¨It is very gratifying to see how many people participated and supported the iniciative last year. Our main goals are clear, reach 500 gifts and spread the good vibes, place smiles on faces!¨

The toy drive runs for a total of six weeks, with week seven being the distribution of all toys. Parents register their children beforehand. Efforts are maximized to have a clear understanding and gifts wrapped in a timely fashion, and a route developed for the caravan.

¨I grew up in an immigrant family with few resources. I know how a child feels this time of the year and the hardships parents sometimes encounter economically. Toys + ´Tings is here for that.¨

This year the caravan is programmed for December 23rd. It consists of multiple characters dressed up as Santa, Grinch, and Minnie Mouse. Snacks, music, and gifts.
